Car Hire Analytics

I completed this project as part of a collaboration between Jaguar Land Rover and THE OUT, a start-up premium car rental company based in London. My objective was to analyse the telematics data from THE OUT’s rental vehicles to gain an understanding of vehicle usage patterns and inform relevant marketing strategies.

For this analysis, I used aggregated location data collected from the vehicles and stored on an AWS server managed by Synaptiv, a start-up company that specialises in making connected car data more accessible. I then queried the Foursquare API with these locations to get a distribution of the location types and businesses near where rental vehicles had parked.

I employed machine learning techniques such as clustering and classification to identity the proportion of vehicle rentals that were likely heading for an outdoor adventure trip, a city break, or a short business trip. I presented these results in the form on an online dashboard, which allow THE OUT’s marketing team to explore the types of marketing campaigns that would be most relevant to both repeat and potential new customers.
